The name is inspired by a Spanish treasure fleet which wrecked just offshore in the early 1700s, spilling its cargo of gold into the endless blue. More localized odes to history exist in towns like Jensen Beach, where every November residents host the annual Pineapple Festival as tribute to the city’s former identity as the Pineapple Capital of the World.
