However, it certainly qualifies as a must-see, especially if you're into historic lighthouses or maritime history. Visit to experience the museum, explore the beautiful grounds, and eventually make the climb up the long, spiral staircase, with some truly amazing views of St. Augustine at the top. The museum also hosts frequent additional activities, including Lighthouse Illuminations and the Lighthouse Keepers' Tour.

  • Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art – 445 N. Park Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789
    The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is both an excellent art museum in the present day and a slice of history that shows how American art has developed over time. Having recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, this museum is best known for its expansive collection from American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, which ranks as the most comprehensive collection of Tiffany works in the world. You'll also find a wealth of history here on American art generally, from historic art pottery to an extensive collection of paintings from the 1800s and 1900s.

  • St. Marys History Walk – 101 Bartlett St., St. Marys, GA 31558
    If you love spending time in St. Marys, don't miss the chance to experience the St. Marys History Walk, which tells the story of local history stretching back more than 400 years. The St. Marys History Walk is about 600 feet long, with 24 interpretive plaques which highlight different periods of local history from the Spanish era in the 1500s through the shipbuilding era in the 1800s and all the way to the present day. No matter which aspect of local history interests you, there are sure to be more than a few plaques on the trail that pique your historical interest.

    There are many fun, smaller museums in the region, especially if you're willing to do a little searching. The Indian River Citrus Museum is one such experience, highlighting the crucial role of the citrus industry in Florida's development, the lives of pioneers in the industry, and how all of that connects to the present day. It's also got a great gift shop, featuring art, souvenirs, and gifts with a citrus theme.

  • Fernandina Beach Historic District – 23 S. 5th St., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034
    We've covered museums and historic sites, but how about a whole district? The Fernandina Beach Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and it provides a fascinating look into what life has been like in Fernandina Beach throughout its history. Explore the history of the community, including many historic local businesses that still operate in the present day.
