By the time February comes around, you're probably ready to be done with winter. But even though it's cold and blustery outside, you don't have to be bored! This is the perfect time of year to focus on some small home improvement projects that will make your space more beautiful and enjoyable. Not sure where to start? Our real estate agents are excited to share a few suggestions:
- Replace Light Fixtures
Outdated light fixtures can make your whole home feel a bit dreary. Luckily, as long as you put the new light fixture in the same location as the old one, they're pretty easy to replace.
Consider adding a chandelier to your dining room to create a new focal point. Or, you could add a colorful pendant to your kitchen, bringing a pop of vibrancy into the space. Don't overlook exterior fixtures, either. A new light can help improve curb appeal and is definitely useful on these long, dark evenings.
- Paper an Accent Wall
Wallpaper has been making a comeback lately. Textured, luxury wallpaper is especially on-trend. And you don't have to wallpaper your whole room to embrace this new style.
Consider wallpapering an accent wall in your living room, bedroom, or even dining room. This is a fun way to add some patterns to an otherwise solid-colored space. A solid-colored sofa looks lovely against a patterned wall with a similar color scheme!
- Replace Your Backsplash
A kitchen backsplash serves two functions: it keeps your walls clean, and it adds interest to the space. If your kitchen could use a facelift but new cabinets and counters aren't in the budget, replacing the backsplash is a great option.
If you're comfortable installing tile, you can definitely DIY this one. Most home improvement stores rent tile saws, so you don't have to buy your own. Subway tile is a versatile option, but don't overlook bolder choices like metallic or jewel-toned tile, either. Just make sure you pick tile with a smooth texture, so it's easy to clean.
- Create a Window Reading Nook
In the cold of winter, it can be so relaxing to curl up in a sunny spot and read a favorite book. Why not add a window seat to your room so you have a dedicated spot to enjoy this activity?
Search consignment stores for benches that would make good window seats. You'll want to add a cushion to the top for comfort. To make the space even more cozy, add a floor lamp and perhaps a small end table. If you have space, you may even want to set a bookshelf up in the corner so all of your books are within easy reach.
Hopefully these suggestions help inspire you to update and improve your home this February. It's amazing what a huge difference a few small changes can make. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're in need of real estate services. Whether you're buying or selling, we're happy to help.
