Florida Gardens
Florida's enviable combination of warm weather and sunshine creates a recipe for robust plant and flower growth. On May 10, our brokers encourage you to celebrate National Public Gardens Day with a visit to these breathtaking facilities around North and Central Florida.

  • Leu Gardens - 1920 Forest Ave., Orlando, FL 32803
If you're seeking a respite from the high-energy activities of Disney World, head to the peace and serenity of Leu Gardens. Dozens of specialized gardens feature extensive collections of azaleas, camellias, ferns, fruit and flowering trees, vines, and other plant species. Historic Leu House Museum serves as the centerpiece of the property. The one-time home of the Leu family, included in their bequeath to the city, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hours are 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily, with Late Night Thursday open until 8 p.m. Admission is $10-$15.

  • Kanapaha Botanical Gardens - 4700 SW 58th Dr., Gainesville, FL 32608
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens shares a name with the neighboring lake, with "kanapaha" originating from the Timucua terms for "palmetto leaves" and "house." The 24 collections of the pet-friendly gardens include Florida's largest public display of bamboo as well as the biggest herb garden found in the Southeast. During late summer months, visitors are treated to the sight of tropical giant Victoria water lilies. Make a day of it by packing a lunch to enjoy on the spacious lawns or in the designated picnic area. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday and 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends. Admission is $5-$10.

  • Sholom Park - 7110 SW 80th Ave., Ocala, FL 34481
Inspired by a visit to Boston Gardens, Sidney and Ina Colen wanted to recreate the experience for residents of Central Florida. The result is Sholom Park, named for Sidney's grandfather. Visitors are encouraged to use the tranquil, dog-friendly grounds as a place for meditation, where they can experience "peace, joy, and contentment." The Japanese Zen Garden is a particularly appropriate spot to gain enlightenment through quiet contemplation of nature. Hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily and admission is free.

  • Bok Tower Gardens - 1151 Tower Blvd., Lake Wales, FL 33853
Gardens are a visual delight, but Bok Tower Gardens features a treat for another of the senses. At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day, a concert is conducted at the Singing Tower, which houses a carillon featuring 60 bells ranging from 16 pounds to 11 tons.
