It's graduation season… are you ready to party?

Let's face it, whether it's high school or college, school is tough. With those pesky exams, late-night study sessions, and tedious group projects one must endure in order to graduate, it's no wonder people want to celebrate when it's finally over.

Commencing this major milestone with a fabulous party is simply a must as graduation is an exciting achievement, but we all know that parties can get pricey. The good news is, with a few simple tricks and a little creativity, you can throw an awesome event without breaking the bank.

Read on for some tips and tricks on how to throw an A+ graduation party on a budget.

SET UP YOUR BUDGET

We know, we know… this part is no fun, but it's really important that you determine how much money you can spend. Make a list of all the party essentials you'll need to include food/drink, decorations, invitations, and party favors, and estimate how much each item will cost. Once you have a total, stick to your budget, and try not to overspend on unnecessary items (this is the hard part, we get it).

PLAN A JOINT GRADUATION PARTY

When it comes to inexpensive graduation party ideas, this one tops the list. There's no better way to cut costs than by co-hosting the party with a few of your graduate's friends. Not only is this a great way to split the cost of the party, but it also divides the responsibilities so no one gets bogged down planning the entire event by themselves.

CHOOSE A BUDGET-FRIENDLY VENUE

The venue you choose for your graduation party can significantly impact your overall cost, so instead of renting an expensive event space, consider hosting your party at home, a local park, or at a community center. These options are often free or have a minimal rental fee, which can save you hundreds of dollars. If you opt to throw the party at home, utilize your outdoor space (think decks or patios), but be sure and have a back-up plan in case of rain and ensure your home is large enough to accommodate all of your guests should you be stuck indoors.

MAKE YOUR OWN DECORATIONS

Decorations are crucial for any party, but they can quickly add up, so instead of purchasing them, why not make your own? DIY decorations are often cheaper and are certainly more personal. You can create centerpieces, banners, and photo backdrops using inexpensive materials such as balloons, paper, and cardboard/cardstock. Purchase clear balloons and fill them with confetti in the graduate's school colors! How fun is that? Another inexpensive and easy decoration: books! They're a great symbol of education and will look awesome as part of a tablescape. When you go shopping for the party food, ask for paper bags and use them to make your own book covers or simply use white paper. You can either leave the covers blank or put photos on them or write on them. Stack them in the middle of tables and place a small flowerpot on top and voilà – you've just created the cutest centerpiece ever!

HAVE A FUN GUEST "BOOK"

If you want to remember everyone who came to the graduation party, a guest book is a great idea, but can seem kind of formal. Consider an alternate idea: buy an inexpensive Jenga game and have each of your guests sign a block! During the party, people will have a blast playing Jenga and writing and reading the messages along the way.

CREATE A DIY PHOTO BOOTH

A photo booth is an excellent addition to any graduation party, but renting one professionally can get expensive. Instead, create a DIY photo booth using a backdrop made from streamers, balloons, or a printed banner. You can also add props such as hats, glasses, boas, and signs to make the photos more fun. Go to your local thrift shop and pick up a few large picture frames, paint them in the school's colors, and watch as your guests giggle while holding the frames around their faces! Oh, and be sure and set up a hashtag so you and your guests can easily share photos of the party.

SERVE AFFORDABLE FOOD AND DRINKS

Food and drinks can quickly become the most expensive part of a party, so instead of having your party catered, consider making the food yourself. Enlist the help of family and friends to pitch in and ask them to each make a dish. Serve fun foods that are easy to eat like buffalo chicken dip, pinwheel sandwiches, ham and cheese sliders, and pigs-in-a-blanket. If you have a friend or family member who loves to grill, perhaps you serve hamburgers and hotdogs. Provide sodas and bottled water and if this is a 21+ crowd, serve inexpensive beer and wine. At the end of the day, no one will really care what food you serve as your guests are there to celebrate their beloved graduate!

SKIP THE FANCY PRINTED INVITATIONS

The cost of fancy invitations can really add up (not to mention the cost of postage), so consider sending digital invitations. Use a free website like Evite or keep things even simpler and send out a group text, email, or an invite through Facebook. Sending electronic invitations via email or social media will not only cost you nothing, but they'll also allow you to track RSVPs easily.

CREATE A PLAYLIST!

Music is essential for any party, but there's no need for a DJ. Create a playlist using your favorite songs and play it through a speaker system or bluetooth speaker. You can also ask friends and family to suggest songs, which will make the party more interactive and fun.

Regardless of what you decide to do, throwing an awesome graduation party on a budget is a no-brainer if you follow a few simple steps. By choosing a budget-friendly venue, making your own decorations, and serving affordable food and drinks, you can create a memorable and fun celebration without breaking the bank.

With that said, it's time to start planning!
