With the fresh air, sunshine, and casual vibes around Jacksonville homes for sale, why head indoors when it's time to eat? Our real estate agents share their favorite local rooftop dining spots.
- Estrella Cocina - 100 W. Bay St., Suite 701, Jacksonville, FL 32202
The food is spicy, but the views are cool at Estrella Cocina. Perched on the seventh floor of the Downtown VyStar Campus, Estrella Cocina serves a menu of Baja coastal Mexican dishes featuring a fiesta of flavors. Take in views of the downtown skyline and St. Johns River as you dine on ceviche, pollo Mexicana, and carne al pastor. Hours are 4 p.m. - midnight Wednesday and Thursday and 4 p.m. - 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
- Prati Italia - 4972 Big Island Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32246
Award-winning chef Tom Gray brings his innovative style to classic Italian food at Prati Italia. "Prati" translates to "meadows," symbolizing the freshness of the food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. Roman-style pizzas and housemade pasta dishes incorporate seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Prati Italia is open seven days a week for dinner, with brunch and lunch recently added Friday through Sunday.
- Mossfire Grill - 1537 Margaret St., Jacksonville, FL 32204
Take your taste buds on a trip to the American Southwest. This summer, Mossfire Grill celebrates their silver anniversary, including their status as Jacksonville's original rooftop restaurant. Customers recommend the wrapped taco upgrade for a pleasing contrast of textures, and many have declared the salsa good enough to drink. Other favorites include the steak burrito, crab cake sandwich, and spinach chicken quesadillas. Mossfire Grill is open from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
- Burrito Gallery - 90 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32202
How down-home is Burrito Gallery? They refer to their fusion of coastal and south-of-the-border flavors as "Jax Mex." While the reason behind "Burrito" in the name is fairly obvious, what about "Gallery?" The owners, who are passionate about local art, jumped at the chance to promote community artisans by exhibiting their works inside the restaurant. Heat lamps on the rooftop terrace let you enjoy your burritos, nachos, and quesadillas well into those cooler Jacksonville nights. Hours are 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon - 8 p.m. Sunday.
- Cowford Chophouse - 101 E. Bay St., Jacksonville, FL 32202
Whether it's a romantic evening for two or a special occasion with family and friends, Cowford Chophouse is the place to be. After a disastrous fire in 1901 leveled many downtown buildings, Cowford Chophouse led the district's rebirth when it opened the following year. Today, the historic Renaissance Revival building has been restored with features such as the arched windows, metal cornice, and wood accents made from 300-year-old heart of pine. Customers agree that the level of service consistently matches the high quality of the food. Cowford Chophouse is open from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
- River & Post - 1000 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32204
Small-plate dining meets Florida's legendary seafood on the rooftop menu at River & Post. Mix and match with dishes such as house-smoked fish dip, shrimp ceviche, and seared ahi tuna. But meat eaters need not despair, thanks to offerings including antipasto, pulled pork nachos, and chicken wings with a choice of sauces. Rooftop hours are 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. Thursday, 4 p.m. - 2 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m. - 2 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday.
