Treasure Coast
The name immediately grabs your attention: Treasure Coast. What sort of magical experiences must be held here to earn such an alluring name? With miles of tranquil coastline, dozens of amazing fishing spots, and a rich, thriving local culture, Treasure Coast more than earns its illustrious name.
In truth, the region received its name when residents wanted to distinguish it from Miami and the Gold Coast down south. The name is inspired by a Spanish treasure fleet which wrecked just offshore in the early 1700s, spilling its cargo of gold into the endless blue. To this day, lucky beachgoers can occasionally spot gold, silver, and jewels washed ashore.
History runs deep in Treasure Coast. The region is home to many unique museums covering a wide range of topics, from art and history to technology. More localized odes to history exist in towns like Jensen Beach, where every November residents host the annual Pineapple Festival as tribute to the city’s former identity as the “Pineapple Capital of the World.”
You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy life in Treasure Coast, though. Take to the sea for excellent deep-sea fishing or depart from any of the many marinas for a day of paddle boarding, surfing, kayaking, and canoeing. Find your own salt-life haven on one of the area’s idyllic beaches. Explore thriving downtowns full of unique restaurants and charming seaside towns with a culture as rich as the treasure lining the seafloor.
