Road to Fernandina Beach
While living in North Wildwood, NJ and contemplating a post-corporate existence, there was a sudden need to help the in-laws downsize. In preparing their home for marketing and after achieving a record-setting sales price for the 55 and over community, the real estate investment bug bit. Something to pursue once back in Atlanta while trying to fulfill a desire for coastal living.
The travel plan for returning to Atlanta would be via the Coastal Highway; from Cape May to Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, Wilmington, Myrtle Beach and many stops in between.
The journey hadn’t unveiled any future residence choices, but the desire to find a year-round coastal area with a main street ambiance remained. In the meantime, an endeavor into flipping houses began.
Trips to Charleston and Hilton Head Island filled gaps between project houses. A future place of residency had yet to be revealed. On a trip to St. Marys and St. Simons Island a young waiter suggested a visit to Fernandina Beach. The remainder of that trip was spent exploring Amelia Island to the clear conclusion: “We’ve found our new home”.
The journey’s end – a new beginning
Fernandina Beach was never a destination on the radar as a place to reside after leaving the corporate world, but the time spent here has brought back a familiar sense of community, friendliness and small town feel that was experienced while growing-up in Hudson, OH.
