Cumberland Island is 17.5 miles long and consists of 36,415 acres. 16,850 of these acres are marsh, mud flats, and tidal creeks. Cumberland Island is the largest of Georgia's barrier islands. Cumberland abounds with natural resources such as horses, sea turtles, armadillos, and maritime forests. Cumberland Island's beach has been chosen as One of America`s Ten Best Beaches by the Travel Channel for 2005. Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge
The Okefenokee Swamp is one of the most well preserved freshwater areas in America. Established in 1936, the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge was created to preserve the 438,000 acres of swampland. Crooked River State Park
Located on the coastal regions of Georgia this park offers comfortable amenities for campers. Cottages are situated by the river and campsites are nestled under the large oak trees. For hikers a trail leads through the forest and marsh. A boat ramp is also available for visitors with boats. Situated in St. Mary's, Georgia, Orange Hall received its name from the orange grove that grows behind the large antebellum house. Built in the Greek revival style, Orange Halls production began around 1826 and 1829 and continued into the 1830's. Tours are available. Hours: Monday by Appointment Monday-Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm Sunday 1:00pm-4:00pm Tour Fees: $3 Adult $1 Children.
St. Mary's Submarine Museum
The Submarine Museum is an opportunity to learn more about Silent Service. Visitors are able to see memorabilia and information on submarines. Also available is a periscope where you can see historic St Mary's waterfront. There is also a gift shop. Contact Number (912)882-ASUB (2782)
There are 2,000 animals and 1,500 varieties of plants living at the Jacksonville Zoo in Northeast Florida . The zoo offers an educational and interactive environment for its visitors. Family Aquatic Center
The Aquatic Center offers a 7 acre water play area. There are lap pools, slides, and an endless river where you can float around the park. The Aquatic Center has lots to do for all ages. Park hours: Monday - Friday 11am to 6pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm; and Sundays 1pm to 6pm. Contact Number: 912-673-8118
