Oviedo, FL Events & Festivals
Oviedo and the Oviedo-Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce organize numerous events each year. Because of Oviedo’s close proximity to Winter Springs, many of the local activities are joint efforts and draw residents from both cities. The annual Taste of Oviedo showcases the areas origins creating a venue for food, crafts and musical entertainment revolving around Oviedo’s agricultural heritage. Founded as an orange and celery agricultural producer, Oviedo highlights this history with the Citrus & Celery Cook-Off which features innovative and tasty recipes from local competitors who compete in a number of categories.
At the nearby Winters Springs Town Center and the adjacent Central Winds Park play host to a number of festivals and events throughout the year. Perhaps the most popular and unique event is the Scottish Highland Games that takes place in January each year. The games take place over a weekend and offer patrons a taste of Scotland with athletic competitions such as the hammer throw, Highland dance and band performances, and Scottish food and whisky tastings.
Each year Winter Springs puts on a 4th of July fireworks display and evening activities including a kids’ bounce house and a sock hop. In October, the Winter Springs Festival of the Arts has become an annual event that attracts fine art lovers to the area. The festival acts as an exhibition and competition for artists from all over Florida representing a variety of mediums including painting, sculpting, fine crafts, music and dance. Residents and visitors enjoy the weekly Farmer’s Market that takes place on Saturdays at the town center.
Nearby, Altamonte Springs has an extensive events program that brings free entertainment to thousands of residents throughout the year. The Uptown Altamonte scene at Cranes Roost Park is the main venue for annual festivals and weekly events. The city provides concerts, art festivals, cirque performances and seasonal holiday events, all of which are free to the public.
