Daytona Beach FL - Home to More Than Racing
When many people think of Daytona Beach, NASCAR racing naturally comes to mind. While racing is important to life here, it is far from the main event. In fact, those who call Daytona Beach home know that the area has many excellent events and festivals away from the race track that are worth enjoying. Here are some of the most popular:
Daytona Beach is home to Bike Beach, which is considered a year-round destination for motorcycle enthusiasts. While Bike Beach has year-round events, every March it is host to the world-famous Bike Week. Bike Week is considered the World's Largest Motorcycle Event and draws nearly 500,000 bikers to the area’s shores.
The "week" is actually ten days, and you will find street festivals, shows, rallies, races, showcases and concerts all week long. This is a loud, engaging, fun time, and as a resident of the community, you can enjoy it every year.
Halifax Oyster Festival
Presented in late April, the Halifax Oyster Festival is a day-long music and food festival at Manatee Island Park. Here you can dine on oysters, take the kids to play in the Kids Zones, complete with touch tanks, or enjoy music on one of two stages. You will leave full to the brim with succulent oysters and dancing to the beat of local musicians. Adults do pay a small fee for entrance to the Festival, but kids are free, making it an excellent event to enjoy with the entire family.
The annual Daytona Blues Festival has grown to be one of the largest family-friendly music festivals in Central Florida. Hear up-and-coming artists perform alongside big names in the music industry at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. In addition to the performances, food vendors come out of the woodwork for the festival, and all proceeds go to support the Halifax Health Foundation's women and children's healthcare services. Limited seating capacity is available at this particular event, so be sure to get tickets early if you wish to attend.
Halifax Art Festival
The Halifax Art Festival is the second oldest continual art festival in Florida bringing hundreds of artists from across the country to Daytona Beach. This two-day event is family-friendly and brings crafters, jewelers, clothing makers and artists of all types. Alongside the artists, thousands of visitors enjoy live entertainment and children's activities. An art show also is part of the festival, and new artists can earn cash awards if they win. This festival is held in early November every year.
