  • Watson Realty Corp. Visits Sea Glass Properties in St. Thomas

    Watson Realty Corp. recently hosted 367 of its leadership team and sales associates for a 50th Anniversary cruise on the Royal Caribbean "Freedom of the Seas".  While in port in St. Thomas, Bill Watson and Judy Bissell, Relocation Director for Watson Relocation Services of Central Florida, took the time to visit with Michelle Hiebert, Office Manager, and Sarah Humphrey, Relocation Director, with Sea Glass Properties. They shared information regarding real estate activity in St. Thomas and Florida. 

    Sea Glass Properties and Watson Realty Corp. are both members of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, the largest global network of premier, powerful and independently-owned brokerages. Through this organization Watson is able to network and build relationships with real estate companies internationally.

    During their time at Sea Glass Properties, Mr. Watson and Judy presented Michelle and Sarah with a custom, blown glass piece and Watson Realty Corp. jar openers. They also learned a fun fact that Michelle and Mr. Watson both attended college in Central Florida; Michelle at Rollins College in Winter Park and Mr. Watson at Stetson University in DeLand.     A Watson Realty Corp. listing has been selected as a finalist in the HGTV 2015 Ultimate House Hunt in the ‘Tiny Homes’ Category.

    The home being featured is a petite, traditional home in the Englewood area of Jacksonville, Fla. This two-bedroom, one-bath home sits on a spacious lot surrounded by trees and foliage, and features upgrades throughout.

    This home is the only property featured in the contest located in North Florida and one of only thirteen properties in Florida out of 114 properties located throughout the world. Among the other properties featured in the tiny homes category are located in Rhode Island, New Mexico, Massachusetts and California. 

    Through Watson’s partnership with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, this tiny home was able to get international coverage on the highly publicized network. All of the properties being featured in the contest are part of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World (LeadingRE), the largest global network of premier, powerful and independently-owned brokerages.

  • Protecting Your Home from Grill Fires

    Did you know three out of five households own a gas grill? That may translate to a lot of tasty meals, but it also explains why there’s an average of 8,800 home fires each year related to grilling, says the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). But gas grills are not solely to blame–all types of grills pose risks for fires.

    The NFPA advises backyard chefs be diligent during cookouts. Keep in mind most grilling fires begin on a courtyard, terrace, patio, exterior balcony or open porch. Protect these areas by:

    - Checking for damage before using the grill for the first time each year;

    - Using propane and charcoal BBQ grills outdoors only;

    - Placing the grill well away from the home, deck railing and out from under eaves and overhanging branches;

    - Keeping children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area;

    - Keeping your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grates and in the trays below;

    - Never leaving your grill unattended.
