  • Congratulations to Andrew Bell for NEFAR Award

    by Watson Realty | Jan 31, 2013
At a recent Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) awards ceremony, Andrew Bell, sales associate at the Watson Realty Corp. South Beach office, was presented the Newcomer of the Year award.

The following is the description and presentation speech for the award from NEFAR:

The Newcomer of the Year award is presented to a NEFAR Realtor member who has been actively involved in the real estate profession for no more than three years (as of Nov. 2, 2012) and who has demonstrated active participation in educational accomplishments and association participation in NEFAR.

"Three years ago, he earned his real estate license and transitioned from a title agent to a Realtor during the worst recession in 75 years. To make his life more challenging he chose to volunteer his energies, ideas, and enthusiasm to advance the real estate profession and his community.

In 2010, he was invited into the NEFAR Leadership Academy where he spent a year learning “the ropes” and the places in NEFAR where he could make his greatest contribution. As a result, he chaired the NEFAR Candidate Screening Committee during the 2012 Presidential election. As Chair, he introduced the candidates and facilitated the decision making process to endorse the best local and state candidates to support the needs of our real estate customers.

For 2012-13, he has been appointed to the newly created Public Policy Education Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) for Florida Realtors. In this role, he is working with a team to develop a strategy for Realtors to help improve Florida’s public education system. His personal focus is on grades K-12. He wants to improve the vocational alternatives for our non-college bound students.

Education is a key element in his professional life. Since earning his Realtor “R” in 2010, he completed his GRI I and II and his Short Sale & Foreclosure Resource certificate (SFR). He is one class away from his Performance Management Network (PMN) designation and his GRI designation.

It wasn’t enough to sit in the continuing education classroom. He is a self-taught expert on smart phone and tablet technology. For the past two years, he has traveled the state teaching smart phone and tablet classes and workshops so Realtors can become more mobile and efficient. He also teaches the RPAC and Welcome and Benefits segments of NEFAR’s Orientation classes.

He supports RPAC with his time and money. He is a Capital Club contributor. He has been a regular volunteer on NFAR’s RPAC Awareness and Events Task Force, working at the Auction each year. In 2010, he created the popular pink-suited duo, The Moves Brothers. Not being shy about challenges, he evolved The Moves Brothers to deliver a message to men that it’s OK to be interested in supporting women’s cancer issues. This dapper duo ignites fund-raising events by inviting hundreds of “Friends” through social media. For the past three years, they have appeared at Bands Against Breast Cancer (BABC), entered women’s cancer floats in the Spring Beaches Parade, and attended countless events for women’s cancer. In 2012, the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation presented The Moves Brothers with a Breast Cancer Champion Award.

He is a full-time Dad and husband. He gives his time at his church to run the complex soundboard for a full rock band. Over the past three years, accolades from his peers include “Member of the Year”, “Rising Star,” and “Entrepreneur of the Year.”

During his short tenure as a Realtor, this man definitely meets the challenge of “active participation in education accomplishments and association participation in NEFAR.”  Please join me in congratulating our 2012 Newcomer of the Year ... Andrew Bell, Watson Realty Corp."
  • Congratulations to Beverly Garvin for NEFAR Award

    by Watson Realty | Jan 31, 2013
At a recent Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) awards ceremony, Beverly Garvin, CDPE CRB GRI LTG, Managing Broker for the Watson Realty Corp. Hidden Hills office, was presented the Educator of the Year award.

The following is the description and presentation speech for the award from NEFAR:

The Educator of the Year award is presented to an instructor of NEFAR courses who has provided exceptional educational support and instruction to NEFAR within the calendar year.

"Our recipient this year is a long time member of the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors and over the years, she has earned the utmost respect of many of her peers as an excellent instructor. She has always been there to instruct for NEFAR during this past year and has always received excellent comments from those in attendance. The attendees compliment her on her knowledge and ability to explain and share real world experiences in the classroom. She is recognized by her peers in the state as one of the best Code of Ethics instructors in Florida and has taught for many other associations and councils during her career.

Her knowledge of the real estate business is in direct proportion to her commitment to personally learn over the years and then share her learned knowledge with others to make our industry a better profession by mentoring those who are entering our business.

She is a past president of NEFAR and continues to give her time to the association and its members year after year. Please help me salute Beverly Garvin as our 2012 Educator of the Year."
  • Congratulations to Audrey Lackie on NEFAR Award

    by Watson Realty | Jan 31, 2013
At a recent Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) awards ceremony, Audrey Lackie, CDPE, GRI, PMN, SRES, TRC, Vice President/Broker and Career Counselor for Watson Realty Corp., was presented the Circle of Honor award.

The following is the description and presentation speech for the award from NEFAR:

The Circle of Honor award is given to any NEFAR member for many years of exceptional service and contributions to the community, state and the real estate profession.

"Our Circle of Honor recipient has been strongly involved in her local and state associations and the real estate profession for many years. A short synopsis of her accomplishments include such things as member of the Florida Realtors Honor Society multiple years, NEFAR Board of Directors for multiple years and the NEFAR Budget & Finance Committee. She has also been involved in the Legislative Committee, Leadership Development Task Force, and the Professional Standards Committee. Having served as an FAR Director for multiple years, she understands the need and importance of giving back to the real estate industry. Therefore, she has been involved in the RPAC Awareness & Events Task Force, and sustained different levels as a RPAC contributor. Those include multiple years as a Capitol Club member, multiple years as a Sterling R member, and multiple years as a Crystal R member. She is a graduate of our first Leadership Academy in 2010 and volunteered to be co-chair of the 2011 Leadership Academy. When the Chair moved away on short notice from Jacksonville, she stepped in and took over as chair of the task force and completed a very successful year.

Her service also includes the local and state WCR chapters where she is past president of the local WCR and currently serving as an officer the the state WCR chapter.

Please help me honor Audrey Lackie as our 2012 Circle of Honor Recipient."
  • Palm Coast Christmas Brigade 2012

    by Watson Realty | Jan 24, 2013
The Watson Realty Corp. Palm Coast office annual Christmas Brigade to help local needy families, as part of the Watson Cares initiative, celebrated a successful event during the 2012 holiday season. Over $1,200 was collected by individuals and local businesses that the office used to purchase food and gifts for the adopted families.

Many of the adopted parents, children and families became emotional by the amount of groceries and gifts provided. Their cries of gratitude made Richard DeCeglie and the others from Watson Realty’s Palm Coast office feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to help.

"What an amazing group of folks we have here at Watson Realty! All your positive remarks and feelings reinforce that I am among a special group of people here and I just want to thank you for that," shared Rich.

Erica Crockett spear-headed the shopping for gifts and she was complimented for her savvy shopping. “Purchasing gifts for these children & teens became a challenge this year, especially within out tight budget, but Erica pulled through,” Rich said.

Obtaining toys and gifts from Toys for Tots at the local real estate board office helped to tremendously offset our costs.  Many local merchants also contributed to this drive: Winn Dixie,, Hair Gallery and Carmella’s Pizzeria.

Additional key helpers in the Brigade helped with wrapping and delivering the gifts. Lindsay Dolamore Caroline Million, Cindy Tetreault and her mother, Joanna Weiland, Abby McQuade, Jeremy Anders, Kaylee and Caleb Crockett, Liam Thobboron, Brian, Jamie and Jeannie Seybold, Jonathan DeCeglie and Victoria Dolamore.  Their wonderful wrapping skills, loading and unloading efforts, and bright smiles were a great added touch.

Richard DeCeglie has lead this Christmas Brigade in the Palm Coast office for many years. This event shows a great tradition of giving at Watson Realty.
  • The 1954 Plymouth Savoy - Bill Watson’s Automobile During the First Six Months of his Real Estate Career

    by Watson Realty | Jan 23, 2013
The 1957 photo is taken during my junior year at Stetson University. I was Company “B” First Sargent in R.O.T.C in 1957.

The big event was purchasing this special 1954 Plymouth Savoy. I wanted a brand new, used car and that’s what I found. I shopped the entire summer for this automobile. I traded in my 1949 Chevrolet (black body, ivory top and ivory side fender skirts). I had purchased the Chevrolet from income earned by delivering 325 Jacksonville Journal newspapers, after school on a bicycle.

The 1954 Plymouth went to Stetson University, then to Fort Benning and was used during the first six months of my real estate career. This special Plymouth was in our family for many years. I gave it to Janelle Watson for our second car (back then, it was big deal to be a two car family). She gave it to her dad and he later gave it to her brother, which covered 20 years.

The purchase was a great decision, investment and purchase.

  • New Year’s Resolution: Get Your Home Ready to Sell in 3 Easy Steps

    by Watson Realty | Jan 02, 2013
It is so important to do all you can to make your house stand out as a great home. Home inventory is decreasing, making it a more competitive market than a few years ago. As an accredited and certified Real Estate Stager for the last nine years, here are some of the things that I have learned.

Step 1: Make Your Home Look Like a Model Home. You want your house to look as spacious as possible. Get rid of the clutter by packing away all things that are personal, such as family pictures and small items.  Less is always better for staging.

Step 2:  Create a Neutral Style.  The goal here is for the prospective buyers to be able to picture their furnishings and family in the space. By not committing to a certain style, people can get a quick feel of how they would arrange things and what options they have for each room.

Step 3:  Be Willing to Invest a Little Bit More. Once your house is on the market, you’ve had your chance at first impressions. Why not make that first impression the best it can be by making sure your home is properly prepared, fixed, polished and prepped to look its best. It is better to spend a little up front than to have to reduce your asking price if your home doesn’t sell as quickly as you expected. Remember the bottom line – you are selling a house, not your home.

In the last year, research has shown that homes sell for more when they are staged rather than if they are vacant or lived in.  As a Real Estate Stager that is also an agent, I am there to help sellers get the most out of their house. This added training gives me the knowledge I need to know how to prepare and sell their home. Lastly, a benefit of being a certified stager is that I can help sellers with wholesale pricing and consultations for any necessary home-improvement projects.
